Ten thing on my to-do list
(in no particular order)

1. Create 3 wedding albums
2. Create 2 trip albums for my mom
3. Scan about 122 pictures for a slide show for my old church
4. Sew my kiddo's Easter Clothes
5. Finish organizing my sewing armoire
6. Sort clothes into 3 piles... Good Will, Consignment & Trash
8. Get kitchen bar cleaned off - I don't even remember what it looks like!
9. Finish up stuff for 3 custom sewing customers
10. Ship some picture orders
11. Take my kids pictures in the bluebonnets before the wither up and die (already kinda late!!)
12. Go on a date with my husband
13. Get pictures taken of our TV and get it listed on craigslist
14. Figure out what I'm going to do about my cats
15. Order a new hard drive (I'm behind on editing because I'm out of hard drive space!!!)
16. renew my CPR card
17. find daycare center for kiddos - class starts June 9!!!

Fix it Friday

So, on my new favorite blog, I heart faces, they have a Fix it Friday. They post a picture and hundreds of people 'fix' it. I love tinkering around in photoshop, so I think I'll starting giving this a try. Seems like a fun way to make sure I blog on Fridays. Along with posting the before & after pictures, I will also share the steps I took to achieve the final look!

Normally, I'd work on a picture the 'long' way... by hand and not by actions. I was in a hurry today, so I did each of these using actions alone. Now, that being said, I do not believe that photoshoppers should rely on actions. Once you learn how to
to properly work on images, actions can be a great tool for cutting down your work time. But before that, you really need to understand what you are doing and why you are doing it! :)

Now, for the steps that I took to get this image:

1. Crop to 5x7, just because that's what I prefer to work with
Used Child's Play Actions for 1-4
1. Exposure fixer-upper
2. Brighten up buttercup x2
3. Warm me up x2
4. Glowly Color

4. Circled eyes using magnetic lasso and ran a USM set to 100, 3.0, 0
5. Brought down opacity just a bit - to around 86%
6. Ran eye pop action and adjusted to 86% opacity as well (I don't like eyes to look freaky!)

7. Vignette by Child's Play
8. Resized for web using Heidi's resize action.

I timed it, I did this image is just over 4 minutes, and that was with a squirmy toddler in my lap!! :)

I met up with a couple of "local" photographers last weekend to work on a few skills. The sun wasn't being super cooperative for what we were wanting to learn, so we had fun and made the best of it anyways! I thoroughly having the opportunity to meet photographers near me and enjoy the time visiting and learning! Thanks Guys! Looking forward to next time!!

These two beautiful people were married this past weekend! They were a blast to work with and I know they have a long life ahead of them. I don't usually cry when I'm photographing a wedding, but Nicole's dad is a minister and helped officiate and he had the tears streaming down my face! I know I wasn't the only one sniffling either! It was a beautiful ceremony and I wish you guys the very best! Hope the honeymoon is awesome!!

What a circus!

We don't really have any more news. There is a new attending dr today and I was able to sit in on the briefing with the residents - that is totally fasicinating and right up my nursing alley! The swallow function was postponed this morning and changed to a barium enema. Poor girl! She and her daddy are downstairs for that right now. I stayed up here to shower and pump. It was another awful night last night. We got her down about 9 fairly easy because she was so exhausted. Well, it turns out that respiratory ordered the wrong tests to be preformed on her nasal wash, so at midnight they came in and woke her up to do it again. We were fit to be tied I tell ya!! After 2 hours of screaming, one of the nurses came and got her and took her outside in the hall to play (this is the 2nd night they've had to do this!) Ugh! Being in the hospital is such a pita!! She was scheduled to have a swallow study this AM, so she was NPO after 5am. It's now 9:45 and 2 people have told us that the swallow study has been cancelled for today and then the speech patho came in and said she was ready!! AARRRGGGHHH!!! (I think we have a goofy resident, he wears us out!) Poor kiddo is in here for weight loss and they keep starving her and blowing our calorie count out the window! I can't even begin to explain how incredibly frustrating this is! I believe that we will have a neurology consult sometime today due to Madeline being so hypotonic for her age. Every other physician that we see says that "she is floppy" She has all had several episodes of rolling her eyes back in her head and her body wobbling around. Reminds me of the clown dolls with the round butt... you know the ones... you punch them and they flop back up. That's what it feels like she would do if you hit her.. she just rolls around sitting up. Totally weird and freaks us out a bit when she does it. Well, a nurse saw the episode yesterday and evidently it freaked her out too. Mike isn't going to be happy to learn that our release date has been pushed back again! Frankly, neither am I, but it is do incredibly difficult to get into Texas Children's as an out-patient, so this is bitter-sweet! I do think that once we get her to sleep tonight I will refuse all treatment until she wakes tomorrow. I can't handle the screaming anymore. Did I mention that I have a migraine??? Again, thank you so very much for all the love and prayers. We feel God's presence with us and know that we are not alone. We cannot wait to get home, but feel so blessed that we are in the best place for Madeline's care. Please continue to pray for not only us, but also for Madeline's physicians.

'My Life Monday'

Just thought I'd give a quick update. We are still at Texas Children's but hope to go home this evening or tomorrow morning. Doctors are still unsure what's wrong with Miss Madeline, but after an OT consult today, it seems that they may have a general direction to shoot in... as opposed to the dark where they've been shooting for a few weeks. The OT seems to think she has some swallowing issues and liquid is going down her trach instead of her esophagus. That would account for most of her symptoms. If her swallow function test today comes back negative, then we'll be back at square one. We had a visit this morning from a large group of attending and resident physicians and they all seem to not know the problem, just know that there is one! None of her symptoms fit together. Her white blood count is low as well as her neutrophil levels. One doctor was concerned about blood in her stool and instead it showed a high sugar level, which is a very strange finding with constipation. Normally, that would show in a patient that has diarrhea. Her cough has started up again and this time they haven't been so quick to dismiss it. We actually have another chest x-ray coming up today or tomorrow morning with plans for repeating her sweat chloride test in a few weeks. She did loose some weight since yesterday, but after 3 huge poo's that's to be expected! (And welcomed, yeah for poop!!) In the next few days, she'll be set up with PT and ECI in the hopes that we can get her gross-motor skills caught up to her age. We're excited about the ECI recommendation, I know that it will be very beneficial for her. I guess that's about all we know for now. Thank you so much for all of the prayers! It's so nice to know that our family has been well thought of!

We are back at Texas Children's Hospital with Madeline. They are still uncertain what is causing her weight loss and now her uncontrollable temperature. It varies between high (102+) and low (96.1). If you have placed an order in the last few days, I will complete it as soon as we return home. If you are waiting on your gallery to become available, I ask that you be patient just a while longer! I promise that I have no forgotten anyone.

Thank you for your understanding! We do appreciate all of the prayers for our family!

A little late getting today's post up! I've been busy. I have several sessions to finish editing, 2 wedding albums to complete and a rediculious amount of personal pictures to edit. Did I mention that my hard drives are FULL? So add weeding and sorting to my to-do list. Of course, there are the routine house-hold chores as well. Laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, litter box, potty-training accidents... the list can go on and on. Life sometimes can feel so overwhelming and no matter what, there is *always* going to be stuff to do. March 9 marks an empty day in my heart. On March 9, 2000, a very dear friend lost his life. I remember that day like it was just last week. I can still remember exactly where I was when I got the phone call. I remember dropping the phone and screaming. I remember my parents crying. Lane was my first "love", my first kiss and one of my best friends. It was the Friday that spring break began and it was our senior year. My life was never the same. So, in honor of Lane, I let all the chores go today. I didn't edit any sessions and I didn't even open the wedding albums. I played with my kids today. Aiden and I went outside and I let him paint! I bought him a blank 16x20 canvas and a whole bunch of paint. He borrowed one of daddy's work shirts and went to town. After he finished and fell asleep, I fixed myself a chimichanga for lunch and let a few tears fall thinking of Lane and his family (for those who knew him will, you understand my menu choice) I loved on my babies a little extra today for you never know the the Lord will bring them home. My prayers are with Wes, Cindy, Aspen & Abby today....

I was working on archiving images tonight and ran across an entire file of personal pictures that I'd never touched! When MJ was just 2 months old, we spent a weekend with Mike's parents at a lake house in Palestine. It was nice even though the neighborhood was a bit scary! One of the nights we were there a huge storm rolled in out of no where. I don't think I'll ever forget the erie feeling as the wind picked up and the clouds darkened! However, it did provide the most beautiful sunset ever and I seized the opportunity to practice my silhouette photography!!! I think I should dig through old files more often!!

I love everything about these shots, except for the pesky dock lines! All they need is a little clone work, but I don't have the patience for that! I need to sweet talk Mike into doing it for me!!!

Isn't that stunning? You should have seen it in person!!! By the time I captured this, the windstorm had passed and there was a calm about the air.

Sweet MJ was just about 2 months old here. I can't believe that she is 9 months today!!!!

I apologize for leaving everyone hanging! MJ is out of the hospital!! We were released last week after her sweat chloride test came back negative, PRAISE GOD!! We still don't have any answers for why her blood work went so wonky on us. We have a weight check this week and we're really praying that she's gained at least a pound so we don't have to endure even more testing!! Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers! The doctors may not understand what happened, but we do!! God is the Greatest Physician!

I know I'm a bit last posting this today, but it's been hectic around here. If you're still waiting on your gallery to open again, just a few more days. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!

I always post a picture of my kiddos on Monday and today isn't any different. I am selling some gear and needed to take pictures so I hauled both kids to the jungle out back. The light was beautiful so in between pictures of lenses, I got a few of my sweet babies!

The first time I met up with Micah and Nicole the weather was cold and W-I-N-D-Y! We decided to meet up and try it again - maybe avoid the wild-n-crazy hair look this time! Well, Miss MJ put a kink in a few things so we ended up doing the session around the medical center! It worked out great - lots of opportunity around there! Since I came home today to take care of a few things around the house, I figured I may as well update my blog. We're still at Texas Children's with Madeline and still don't have many answers. Her weight is fluctuating, up and down each day! Tomorrow is her sweat chloride test and if everything comes back okay, we'll be released and complete all other testing as out-patients! Thank you so much for all of your love and prayers - we've felt it all. Madeline has been a totally different baby. We have never seen her interact and play like she has been the past few days! We are loving our new baby girl!!!

Now, to the business side. If you're waiting to place an order, I am terribly sorry! I promise that fixing my shopping cart will be first priority once we return from the hospital and settle back into a routine! Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!!!

A little bump in the road

This is just going to the a reader's digest version since I'm short on time! MJ has been "goofy" lately... sleeping 14-17 hours AT A TIME!, not eating much, blank stares, stopped being interactive and a whole other list of things. Called and got an appointment for the pediatrician on Tuesday. He looked her over and ordered some blood work. When the results came back on Wednesday, we were ordered to take her to the ER at Texas Children's Hospital for admission and further testing. We arrived at 1611 on Wednesday and to make a long-story-short, we got a room at 1932 on Thursday. It was a long day to say the least. So far it's been lots of no sleep, blood work and exams. Without getting into all the details, she's loosing weight and they really don't have a reason why. Evidently it's only cool to loose weight as an adult! Over the next few days we have a whole slew of specialists to see... GI, Respatory, Nutrition and a few others. So, please keep Mike and I as as well as Miss MJ in your prayers. It looks like we'll be at the hospital until at least Tuesday (that's when her sweat test is scheduled) Poor Aiden has been bounced all over between families for sleep-overs but he's having a blast! I did pack up my camera in our rush to leave Wednesday.... So, until later, here's a few pictures :)

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Weekend. Mine was pretty rotten, I woke up with a head cold and horrible migraine Saturday morning. Normally, I would have just crawled back into bed, but I was responsible for making 80 miniature pineapple upside-down cakes for a church dinner on Sunday, so no rest for the weary! I made 5 batches and couldn't take it any longer... My super-hero hubby stepped up to the plate and finished the remaining 48 cakes!!!

What is all of this??? The Ingredients:

10 sticks of butter
8 cans of pineapple rings
2 jars maraschino cherries
9 3/4 c. brown sugar
19 1/2 c. flour
13 c. sugar
4 1/3 c. shortening
9 3/4 c. milk
19 1/2 tsp baking powder
6 1/2 tsp salt
13 eggs
2 cans of whip cream
4 trips to the store

Yup, you see that right... only 6 at a time... It took 13 trips to the oven and 455 minutes to get the cakes finished!

I had excellent "help" If only the pictures showed the sticky sticky mess that followed Aiden all over the kitchen :)

Daddy snapped this at one point in the evening... I have such a great husband. I don't know many men that would strap on the apron and high heels and take over this job. Okay, maybe he didn't actually wear an apron and heels, but you get the point!

I envisioned this incredible shot with all 80 cakes, warm and gooey & ready to serve but it just didn't happen. Time & working space weren't on my side... plus my migraine was working against me! I'm pretty bummed about it since the cakes were quiet an under-taking, but alas, it is what it is. But don't worry, I'm thinking that I'll do just one. more. batch... blame it on the photographer in me :) I can't stand not having any product shot! But for now, these will have to do....

So, there ya have it... Another glimpse into my super-exciting life :)

In my dreams, I'm a world-famous photojournalist traveling all over viewing the world through my lens... both the beautiful and the tragic. Sadly, that is just a dream. In reality I'm a stay-at-home-mom with two young, demanding kids. Well, last night, for just a moment, I got to step into my dreams. I was headed to Mike's office to meet him for pizza (he was working on a project late last night!) and just before his office, I noticed a massive fireball and instantly knew what was there, Apartment. I got excited because I actually had my camera with me!! I pulled into the the Walgreens across the street only to realize that I *thought* I had my camera with me. I had intended to bring it, but just didn't get out the door with everything I wanted to :( Mike's office may only be 8 miles from the house. but it feels like an eternity with a billion stop lights between you and your beloved camera! I raced home and raced back but most of the fire was controlled by then. Kudos to the firefighters! I did manage to get a few shots and at one point, the front unit lit up again. My heart is heave for the 20 families that lost everything they own. No one was hurt last night, but several family pets were lost. It was torn down last night due to safely reasons, but I still wanted to drive by and see it again in daylight. I've watched many news reports about apartment fires, but have never been as close as last night - it effects you differently when you saw it, when you smelt it. My thoughts and prayers are with those families and I hope that yours will be too after you see these images.

The Day After....

I had some errands to run today and wanted to go back, even though the news reported that it would be torn down last night. I felt a tug on my heart to go before the store and I'm so glad that I did. I met a woman named Kay who was there taking pictures for her son and daughter-in-law. They are newly weds and lost everything. I met Kay once before during the Endeavour Shuttle Fly-by last month. She is an account exec for the Houston Chronicle (yah, I am crossing my fingers that someday she is able to get me published!). Anyway, my heart just breaks for her son and his wife. I cannot imagine how they must be feeling right now. I don't know what yet, but I know that God is pushing me to do something, anything. I'm still in prayer about it, but when the time comes, I am sure I will discuss it here. In the meantime, here is the scene earlier today....
